Westworld season 4: Ever since the third season of Westworld ended on HBO and Sky Atlantic in May of this year, fans have been desperately waiting for more information about the series’ future.

The third season finale ended with another dramatic twist, and fans of the sci-fi mystery series eagerly awaited a fourth season, especially since creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy teased that it would be the last.

The series has a huge number of storylines and a large ensemble cast similar to “Game of Thrones,” which means there’s plenty to work with if season four is indeed Westworld’s last.

Although the first season garnered a record number of viewers and widespread acclaim, the series has since caused much controversy among fans and critics because of its multi-layered narrative, complex plot and non-linear timeline.

Here’s everything we know about season four.

When will it be released?

Although production is well underway, a release date for the fourth season of Westworld has yet to be determined.

With two years between each season, it’s not expected to hit screens until spring 2022 at the earliest.

When it airs, it can be seen on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the U.K. and HBO in the U.S.

Who’s coming back?

Given the nature of Westworld, where many of the characters are androids, the fates are not as final as in other series. It is common in the series for characters to be killed off and then come back in a different robot body after a few episodes.

Evan Rachel Wood, who has been in the series since the beginning, will not be in the fourth season after her character Dolores was killed off, and Nolan confirmed to Variety that “Dolores is gone.”

But, in typical Westworld fashion, that doesn’t mean Wood won’t be able to return at some point, either as Dolores or as another character.

Other victims of the previous season include Serak, the villain played by French actor Vincent Cassel, and William Ed Harris, who suffered a sad fate at the hands of Tessa Thompson’s Dolores.

Like Wood, however, Harris could always return later; he has been part of the series from the beginning.

Along with Thompson, Tandive Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Aaron Paul, Luke Hemsworth, Simon Quarterman and Rodrigo Santoro will return for season four.

Westworld will have a new face – “Prodigal Son” actor Aurora Perrino has signed on for a cameo role.

What’s the show about?

Information about the plot of season four is scarce, but Nolan and Joy say they have always had a rough idea for the series.

The end of season three raised more questions than answers, and fans can’t wait to find out the true fate of Dolores, William and Bernard, who appeared in the teaser after the credits in the last episode.

As for the future of the series, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said: “From an amusement park in the west to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve enjoyed every twist and turn. We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”
