Tones And I owns an Australian record: the song “Dance Monkey” has held the No. 1 spot for 24 weeks, topping the sales charts in 30 territories. It’s the world’s most popular song on Shazamed and the No. 3 song in terms of views on Spotify. Last year she was voted best songwriter on the planet.
Now Tones has her first No. 1 album.
Her debut LP, Welcome To The Madhouse (Sony), released Friday (July 23) local time, reached No. 1 on the ARIA album chart.
Welcome To The Madhouse includes previously released songs “Fly Away” and “Cloudy Day,” which climbed to a new peak this week, 44-31. The song “Dance Monkey” appears on Townes’ 2019 debut EP, “The Kids Are Coming,” which ranked No. 3 in the national poll.
“Wow-wow-wow-wow! Thank you so much Australia for your continued love and support, I’m overwhelmed,” Townes commented on his latest charting achievement. “I can’t believe the heck I’m not going to quit anytime soon. Haha.”
In a busy week for new releases, John Mayer’s album Sob Rock (Columbia/Sony) starts at No. 3, becoming the seventh top 10 ARIA album for the American blues-rocker, while Pop Smoak’s second posthumous album Faith (Universal) opens at No. 4. Faith is the follow-up to Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon, which reached No. 1 in July 2020.
Also on the ARIA Albums Chart this week is All Over The Place (BMG/ADA), the second album from British rapper and youtuber KSI. It moved up to No. 6, becoming KSI’s second top-ten album in just over a year; his debut album, Dissimulation, reached No. 4 in June 2020.
This week’s Australian take: The Kid Laroi song “Stay” (Columbia/Sony) tops the ARIA Singles Chart for the second week in a row.
“Stay,” a collaboration with Justin Bieber, was the singer and rapper’s second No. 1 from Sydney after “Without You,” which climbed to No. 10-9 this week. Watch for The Kid Laroi to make another big splash next week. His third mixtape, F*CK LOVE 3: OVER YOU, is out today.
